Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for Paragon Skydives Frequently Asked Questions.

Paragon Skydive is the first and only skydiving operation approved to operate on an FAA towered airport in the United States – this means our procedures have had to go through the most rigorous assessments and approval processes in the industry and have had input from some of the top experts in evolving the FAA’s National Airspace System.

We operate 364 days of the year from approx. 6am (summer), 10am (winter) to sunset, varying slightly on the time of the year. This gives additional activities in the morning and evening times for visitors to the Grand Canyon.

While there is a lot of information in here, please see our Terms & Conditions for more information and or any details referred to in the FAQs.

About the Skydive

You have to be over 18 to Skydive with us and of good physical fitness to skydive with us. Please DON’T forget to bring your I.D. no matter what age you are. Unfortunately if you don’t have a valid I.D. we cant let you jump.

Tandem skydiving can be very exhilarating and thrilling, but it is amazing fun also. The tandem master is there to look after everything and remember, tandem skydiving is a lot safer statistically than you might think. The freefall is a major adrenaline rush, but the flight under canopy is surprisingly peaceful, quiet and surreal, especially with the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon. It’s definitely a lot more fun than terrifying, although you would not be human if you weren’t a bit scared when you jump out the door!

You can change your mind on the day, if you really want to, but there will be an associated fee as we will not be able to fill the space at such short notice. If you go in the aircraft and decide not to jump out there will be no refund.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for more details .

We are planning to have a camera in the plane so that you can remotely watch your friends and/or family members on their ascent flight and as they exit the aircraft. This will be coming soon!

Unfortunately the landing area itself is in a restricted part of the airport so you will have to wait until they are driven back to the Paragon Skydive area to see them.

Each parachute will have a different color identifier, so you know which one to look out for in the sky.

However, the video and photo options will capture the entire experience to share again and again…

Nothing else compares!

It has been described as: Total Freedom! Amazing and unforgettable! Flying like a bird or better yet, like Superman/Superwoman! You’ll have to try it for yourself and tell us what you think.

Skydiving is an extreme activity, and we have to make decisions regarding your safety with the following things in mind: You need to be a generally healthy person with an average (enough) fitness level that must be able to maneuver into the required positions to enable a safe skydive.

If you have any medical concerns, please seek the advice of a Medical Professional.

No, due to FAA and other government restrictions Paragon Skydive is a Tandem only skydiving operation.

Unfortunately due to strict aviation policies surrounding the Grand Canyon, our Grand Canyon National Park location is strictly a tandem only operation.

YES!! With our Extreme Extras you will be allowed to pull, steer and fly the parachute, all with the safety of your tandem instructor behind you. You will be given training on the ground on the procedures of steering methods before taking to the sky to experience this thrill.

Please note that you will be attached to your tandem instructor the entire time and flying the parachute is only possible for a portion of your flight, Our USPA qualified tandem instructors will take over to complete the descent and landing and may need to take over due to weather conditions and any other unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

No, for safety reasons you are not able to bring your own camera or mobile phone on the skydive, including GoPros. Photo and video options are available as part of a package or as an add-on to your skydive taken by your tandem instructor using the correct equipment for skydiving.

Although the skydive itself from start to finish only takes approximately 40 minutes, you may have to spend a considerable amount of time at our facility. Factors that include aircraft status, weather, and other unforeseen circumstances, may hinder our ability to conduct speedy skydiving operations. On non-busy days you can expect to complete the skydiving process within 2.5 hours which includes the check-in and training process; however on busier days you should keep your schedule clear for at least a half-day. We strive to make your experience safe, memorable, and expedient; so we ask for your patience & understanding.

Yes, we will provide goggles for you, that must be worn for safety purposes.

Not to worry we have special goggles that can be fitted over the top of most standard glasses so you wont miss out on a second of the action.

No, it is the Grand Canyon is National Park and it is prohibited to land skydivers below the rim.

Terminal velocity is the maximum speed that a freely falling object eventually reaches when the resistance of the medium through which it is falling prevents further acceleration.

A typical terminal velocity for a skydiver freely falling through the air is roughly 220 kilometres per hour (150 miles per hour) – its fast.

Safety

At Paragon Skydive, safety is our #1 priority and we are 100% committed to this!

  • Our Highly experienced Tandem Instructors are qualified and accredited by the USPA as well as being specifically trained by the equipment manufacturers.
To become a Tandem Instructor in the USA, one of the many requirements is that you must have completed hundreds of skydives with some of our staff having over 8,000 jumps in total.
  • We use state of the art equipment including Vigil Automatic Activation Devices that automatically deploys reserve parachute if required.
  • Our equipment is maintained to higher than recommended standards and all staff abide by our stringent safety rules and regulations.
  • Our Aircraft are maintained to stringent FAA specifications with routine inspections carried out by qualified aviation mechanics on an ongoing basis.
Statistically, according to the National Safety Council, you are more likely to be killed being struck by lightning than doing a tandem skydive!
  • Skydiving is an extreme sport, and like any extreme sport there is a certain amount of risk involved. When you compare the statistic of Tandem Skydiving compared with the statistics for registered cars in the same states, it would seem the most dangerous part of your day is going to be driving to the Drop Zone!

We want nothing more than to share our amazing skydiving experiences with as many people as possible and we try our best to accommodate everyone, including people with disabilities. Generally you eligibility will depend on how your disability will affect your ability to perform certain actions that are required for safety during a tandem skydive, such as crossing your arms across your chest and lifting your legs for landing etc.

More and more equipment being developed all the time that can help us share the accommodate people with disabilities, If you have a disability but would still like to skydive please contact us and we can discuss the possible options that may be available and see how we can cater to individual needs.

Do not worry, in the extremely unlikely event we have a malfunction with the main parachute there is a backup ready to go.

As part of the FAA regulations, all tandem parachute jumps must be made with a single harness, dual parachute system with both a main and a secondary, or reserve, parachute. Basically, if one doesn’t work, you have a backup. The reserve parachutes are inspected and repacked on a strict timetable by an FAA-certified rigger whether they’ve been used or not. The main parachutes are inspected and packed by a rigger or experienced packer every time after use. In addition, all tandem parachutes must have an AAD (automatic activation device) which will deploy if the both the student and or tandem instructor fail to activate either the main or reserve parachute.

No alcohol is to be consumed 8 hours prior to your tandem skydive, we reserve the right to refuse clients we suspect to be intoxicated and with no refund as per our terms and conditions.

When Scuba diving BEFORE Skydiving, you MUST WAIT 24 hours before skydiving with Paragon Skydive. If possible, complete your skydive BEFORE Scuba diving, as it is ok to Skydive BEFORE Scuba diving.

Yes, for safety reasons there are weight and size limits for tandem skydiving.

We need to ensure the safety of our customers and our staff. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for more information.

Size and weight restrictions are applied at all drop zones are are there to ensure the safety of the tandem passenger and our instructors. The equipment that is used comes with loading restrictions.

Extra charges are applied because the Tandem Instructor’s job is much more physically demanding when taking larger loads as well as extra strain being put on our equipment particularly at the parachute opening and landing portions of the skydiving resulting in equipment needing to be replaced more regularly. We also have to reduce the amount of people in the aircraft when taking passengers in a certain weight range.
